Short course description (intramural studies, 1st cycle of higher education)



Course objectives:
Within a framework of course: genesis and classifications of deposits, criteria of deposits value assessment, form and structure of deposits, processes of form a deposits, mineral resources of deposits in Poland and in the World, are discussed. Subject matter is completed by content with special meaning, which aim is get acquainted of student with present methods of mining and processing of minerals.

Lecture:
Tasks of ore geology. Elementary notions and definitions. Natural characteristics of deposits. Technical-economic elements of deposits assessment. Geochemical basis of deposits forming. Geological conditions of deposits occurrence. Form and structure of deposits. Mineralogical characteristics of deposits. Physical properties of minerals. Genesis of deposits. Forms processes a deposits. Methods of precipitation and concentration of mineral matter. Methods of deposits examinations. Classifications of deposits. Exogenous deposits. Sedimental deposits. Solid caustobioliths deposits. Humic coals deposits. Peat deposits. Lignite deposits in Poland. Classiffications of hard coal basins and deposits. Hard coal deposits in Poland (USCB, LSCB, LCB). Sapropelic coal deposits. Liptobiolites deposits. Physical and chemical properties of oil and gas. Oil and gas traps. Classifications of oil and gas. Oil and gas deposits in Poland. Methane deposits in hard coal seams. Methods of deposits exploitation. Processing methods in processing plants. Physical-chemical basis of processing. Industrial realization of processing of minerals. Organization of processing plants.

Laboratory:
Construction of cross-section through drill-holes and correlation of hard coal seams. Maps construction and calculation of hard coal resources. Visit on Museum of Ore Geology of Faculty of Mining and Geology of Silesian University of Technology. Densimetric analysis of hard coal samples. Determination of enrichment curves. Visit on processing plant.
